CGA Talk

7th November 2017

We held our Autumn Term CGA talk on Tuesday November 7th, featuring 3 Calne girls all of whom work in different areas of Medicine. Caroline Brand, (1989 leaver), is a part time GP in East Sussex where she also helps develop local services for end of life care. Martha Wyles, (1991 leaver), is a general paediatrician as well as being a RCPCH tutor with undergraduate medical students and trainee doctors. Charlotte Manisty, (1995 leaver), works at Barts Heart Centre where she is a consultant specialising in heart failure and heart imaging, alongside a senior lecturer post at UCL. It was a truly inspirational evening - fascinating to the girls studying medicine,  but equally interesting to the non-medics amongst us.

Calne Girls Association Reunion

Saturday 14th October

We celebrated our three yearly Calne Girls Association Reunion at St Mary’s, on Saturday 14th October with 32 old girls, the eldest being an unbelievably spritely 84!  It was a particularly happy and uplifting occasion and commenced with a beautiful chapel service given by the Rev Rachel Benson (1960 leaver) and our school chaplain father Jonathan.  St Mary’s catering excelled itself as usual with a delicious lunch and tea and the Music department put on a series of stunning performances by the girls accompanied by Chris Totney.  The alumnae were given tours of the school were given by members of the LVI and memories were evoked at every doorway.

2017 Silver Jubilee/25 year reunion - July 2017

On Friday 7th July, 1992 Leavers returned to school for their 25 year reunion.  From Geneva, Zurich, Yorkshire and more, 20 of us gathered for an hilarious evening of catching up, gossip and trips down memory lane.  A lovely toast was also given to our dear friend Eloise Plunkett (1974 – 2002).  It was a balmy evening, so were able to sit outside and reminisce whilst looking at the old buildings we’d known so well and marvel at the new.  The following morning we are given a fun tour of the school and were thrilled to see so many fantastic changes, despite Red Hall no longer being red.

Reunion for leavers of 1986 7 & 8

12th May 2017

On May 12th we held a small  reunion in school for leavers from 1986, 7 and 8.  21 old girls congregated  in the oratory library for drinks  and were then given tours of the school by  members of the current LVI. A delicious dinner was served in the school  dining room.  It was an exceptionally buzzy evening – many of the guests had not set foot in Calne since they left the school and were astounded by all the changes. As one 1986 leaver said in her thank you email,  “ It was an absolute joy to see everyone again after 30 years and the tour of the school  was the most amazing mixture of nostalgia and awe at the school's incredible facilities”.  Over half the guests  then  continued well into the night at the Bowood Hotel Shelburne Bar
