Gladys Beale

Gladys BealeWe were sad to hear that Gladys Beale, our oldest alumnae, died on Tuesday 18th March 2014 at the age of 106. Gladys had been a pupil at St Mary's Calne from 1921-1926 whilst Marcia Matthews was Headmistress.

Life After Calne

Cate BellCate Bell gave her introductory talk about the Calne Girls' Association to the UVI Leavers on Tuesday 11 March. Cate is an Old Girl whose family has been connected to the school for generations. She is responsible for producing the new look CGA magazine, Calne Girls Connected, and is currently the Communications Manager for the CGA.

Opera Gala Night Raises Over £11,500 for the Armed Forces Fund

 

Opera Gala

The Opera Gala Night on the evening of Wednesday 5th March in aid of The Armed Forces Fund was certainly a night to remember!  In the spectacular surroundings of the Merchant Taylors’ Hall, talented singers of St Mary’s shared the stage with international Operatic Stars of our time, and created an evening of dramatic, poignant and memorable operatic colour.

Consider the Lilies

Consider the Lilies Consider the Lilies: A History of St Mary's Calne, is written by Calne Old Girl and school archivist, Elizabeth Christie, and explores St Mary's from 1873 to 2013.

2012 Leavers' Reunion

On Thursday 9th January, the Calne Girls’ Association (CGA) kindly hosted a fifth term reunion for the leavers of 2012 at a London nightclub on the King’s Road. First to arrive were the CGA representatives, Claire Byrne and Debs Wakeham, and Mr and Mrs Rothwell, Mrs Depla and Lady Arabella Unwin from St Mary's.

Sisters give inspiring talk at Calne Girls' Lecture

Marina ParkerOn Monday 21st October, we were extremely excited to welcome back to school sisters Marina and Victoria Parker, both old St Mary's girls who left in 1997 and 2000 respectively. Both girls have gone on to be extremely successful in the world of media.

Marina is a documentary film maker with one BAFTA already under her belt. Victoria travels all over the world working for Harvey Weinstein (pictured with Victoria) as Senior Vice President of Theatrical Productions & Corporate Affairs.

Now celebrating our 140 year anniversary, this book provides an inspiring story and a fascinating read for all generations of pupils and alumnae. It took courage and vision to found a girls' school at a time when women were denied the right to vote and university entrance for them was a radical idea.  For 140 years St Mary's Calne has provided opportunities for girls to shine.
