Kristina Blahnik

On Tuesday 3rd May, the Calne Girls' Association (CGA) were very pleased to welcome former Calne Girl Kristina Hulsebus Blahnik (1992) to give a talk in school, attended and enjoyed by over 60 girls. Kristina Blahnik, CEO of Manola Blahnik, the internationally acclaimed and spectacular shoe designer, gave a hugely entertaining and insightful talk. She shared experiences of her time at St Mary’s Calne, then as an undergraduate at Cambridge, a post graduate at the Architectural Association and then as a leading business woman.

The Cantabile Concert Series presents...
An Evening of Song & Swing with
the Royal Air Force Squadronaires Big Band

On Friday 22 April St Mary’s School hosted a spectacular evening of song & swing with The RAF Squadronaires (by kind permission of the Air Force Board of the Defence Council). The third concert in the acclaimed Cantabile Concert series continues to raise money for the Armed Forces Fund, which provides education to children who have a parent, or any rank, killed or wounded in active service. The Squadronaires added a particularly appropriate tone.

10 Year Reunion - 2006 Leavers
 25th February 2016

10 Year Reunion 2016

On Thursday 25th February we welcomed back around twenty Calne girls to celebrate their 10 year reunion at Juju’s on the Kings Road in Chelsea. Many of them hadn’t seen each other in years, whilst some obviously see each other all the time. For Lottie Dodson it was an extra special bonus as the reunion coincided with her 28th birthday.

As ever with Calne girls, they had all gone on to do a myriad of inspiring things since leaving school, and are now involved in exciting careers - running their own companies, being solicitors, teachers, lobbyists and graphic designers. One is even the curator for the Historic Furniture and Decorative Arts at the Houses of Parliament. Each and every one of them is worthy of an invitation to come back and give a CGA talk to our girls, so be warned - leavers of 2006, we will be in touch!

CGA Lecture - Rosemary Berry
 2nd February 2016

Rosemary Berry

On Tuesday 2nd February we were visited by a 1965 leaver, Rosemary Berry (née Vaughan), who kindly came back to talk to us about her involvement in setting up and now running an independent, fully registered charity called A Village in Syria, enabling Syrians to stay in Syria.

Rosemary gave us a fascinating insight into the extraordinary challenges that have to be overcome in order to provide funding and provisions for this unidentified village in the middle of a war zone. Do please go to the link to learn more about this charity.

5th Term Reunion - 2014 Leavers
7th January 2016

2014 Leavers Reunion

On Thursday January 7th we held the first of our annual CGA events, welcoming back  the leavers of 2014 to celebrate their fifth term reunion at Juju’s in Chelsea. Over thirty girls attended, some who had not seen each other since the Lily Ball in July 2014. They were joined by five members of current staff and two former – Mrs Dalley and Miss Leadbetter.

It was hard to know who was more excited to see whom and the uplifting atmosphere managed to banish any thoughts of January blues - even if just temporarily! Judging by the Facebook posts that followed, the party continued for many long after the reunion officially ended!

CGA Lecture - Sophie Walker
24th November 2015

Sophie Walker

Sophie left Calne in 2003. After initially studying Art History and working in the Arts she went on holiday to the Bolivian Amazon, returning to England determined to qualify in horticulture. Last year, Sophie became the youngest woman to design a garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Her conceptual garden, Cave Pavilion, used only rare plants, many of which were new to science.
